Appam Sweet Recipe
Ingredients: Appam Sweet Recipe
• 1 cup white basmati rice (washed)
• 2 cups full fat coconut milk (fresh)
• ¼ tsp salt (optional – use if using canned coconut milk)
• 1 tbsp jaggery/brown sugar (or honey)
• ½ cup grated coconut (dry)
Preparation: Method Appam Sweet Recipe
1) Wash and soak the rice for about 5 minutes.
2) Add water to cover the soaked rice and cook over high heat till the water is absorbed.
3) Transfer the cooked rice to a blender and blend until smooth
4) Heat the coconut milk, add the jaggery/honey and mix well.
5) Pour the hot mixture into the blended rice and whisk vigorously to obtain a homogenous texture.
6) Mix in the salt.
7) If desired, garnish the top with grated coconut.

Mix rice flour, salt and sugar together until the consistency is similar to bread crumbs. Add oil, green chilies and mix well. You may add a little bit of water if the batter seems dry.
Heat a pan over high flame. Pour small amount of batter into hot pan. Spread to make a thin pancake. Flip over once done and cook other side. Repeat until batter runs out. Serve with coconut chutney and pickle.
Appam is basically a fermented rice pancake that is eaten for breakfast and dessert with sambar (a sour tamarind sauce). It is a popular snack food among people in Kerala and is generally sold at roadside stalls.
